Airbus Forecasts Need for 2.44 Million Aviation Workers

Airbus predicts the aviation industry must hire 2.44 million workers by 2045 and aims to grow service revenue to $10 billion by 2030.

Airbus SE forecasts that the aviation industry will need to hire 2.44 million people over the next two decades to keep pace with air travel demand. This labor requirement includes 660,000 pilots, 1.05 million cabin crew, and 730,000 maintenance workers, with the company noting that maintenance staff are currently facing acute shortages.

As part of a strategic shift in its business model, Airbus aims to increase its commercial aircraft service revenue to over $10 billion by 2030. The company is moving from a model of solely delivering aircraft to providing integrated services, a transition that may place it in competition with engine manufacturers over long-term repair streams. Airbus estimates the post-factory services market will double to $420 billion by 2045, growing at an average annual rate of 3.8%.

Airbus identifies India as the primary region for air travel growth. Within the services sector, the company notes that connectivity and data-crunching services are the fastest-growing segments. These growth predictions align with those of Boeing Defense, Space & Security, whose services division remains its most profitable unit.
