Iran Seizes Chevron Oil Cargo and Pursues U.S. War Crimes
Iran seized $50 million in crude oil from a Chevron tanker and announced plans to pursue the United States in international courts for war crimes.
The Iranian government has initiated a series of legal and physical escalations against the United States, involving the seizure of commercial assets and the filing of international war crimes claims. Gholam-Hossein Mohseni Ejei, Iran's Judiciary Chief, announced that the Islamic Republic will confiscate American properties based on court rulings to compensate Iranian citizens.
As a direct result of these rulings, Iranian authorities seized the Advantage Sweet, a tanker carrying approximately $50 million worth of Kuwaiti crude oil destined for Texas on behalf of Chevron Corp. This action stems from a March 2024 court ruling favoring Iranian patients who argued that U.S. sanctions blocked the import of medicine for a rare skin disease.
Simultaneously, the Iranian Foreign Ministry is preparing war crimes claims against the U.S. military. These claims specifically allege the deliberate bombing of civilian infrastructure, including water systems in the town of Sirik. Ejei stated that the government will continue to pursue the U.S. in international courts for these human rights violations.
