Sadhguru Proposes Five-Nation Board to Protect Himalayas

Spiritual leader Sadhguru proposed the urgent creation of a five-nation Himalayan Board comprising India, China, Pakistan, Nepal, and Bhutan to coordinate disaster responses and protect the mountain system from climate change. Speaking at an 'In Solidarity with Nepal' gathering in Lalitpur and Kathmandu on August 31, he argued that the region's protection transcends "nationalities and political affiliations" and is a matter of "humanity."

The proposal follows devastating flash floods and a massive glacial collapse along the Nepal-Tibet border on August 26, which left 794 people dead and 2,502 missing. Sadhguru characterized the disaster as a "physical phenomenon" and urged against attributing the event to divine or mystical reasons. During the event, he announced a donation of ₹1 crore (Rs10 million) from Isha Nepal to the Government of Nepal Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund.

The disaster heavily impacted the Isha Foundation, with 80 members reported missing. This includes 77 participants of the Isha Sacred Walks Kailash Sojourn at the Gyirong immigration centre in China and three volunteers in Nepal. To honor the deceased, the Isha Yoga Center in Coimbatore will perform the Kala Bhairava Karma ritual.
