Hysata Launches AI-Optimized Electrolyser Production Line in Australia

Australian startup Hysata launched HysataFab, an AI-optimized production line for electrolysers, at its headquarters in Port Kembla. The facility is the centerpiece of a nearly $100 million project that will eventually integrate three production lines for electrodes, membranes, and cell and stack manufacture.

Hysata claims its electrolysers are the most efficient in the world, requiring 20 percent less energy than current technologies. The company plans to expand the factory to 200 megawatts of capacity, which would establish it as the largest electrolyser manufacturing facility in the southern hemisphere.

CEO Paul Barrett stated that while previous expectations for hydrogen in passenger cars and home heating were unrealistic, green hydrogen remains critical for decarbonizing heavy industries including steelmaking, aviation, and shipping. Hysata has already secured its first heavy industry export customer and expects to deliver a large-scale electrolyser during the first half of 2027.
