Florida and Mississippi Prepare for November 3 General Elections
Election officials in Florida and Mississippi finalize preparations for Tuesday's general elections, featuring high-stakes gubernatorial and senatorial contests.
Election officials in Florida and Mississippi are finalizing preparations for the general elections on November 3, 2026. In Florida, Alina Garcia, the Miami-Dade County Supervisor of Elections, announced the relocation of 12 polling locations affecting 19 precincts due to construction and scheduling conflicts. Miami-Dade has already recorded over 530,000 early ballots, while Broward County has seen 450,000, with both counties expecting hundreds of thousands more voters on Tuesday.
The Florida gubernatorial race between Republican Byron Donalds and Democrat David Jolly has entered its final stage. Donalds campaigned on a platform of limited government and low taxes, while Jolly focused on affordable housing, healthcare, and infrastructure. Additionally, voters will decide a U.S. Senate race between incumbent Republican Ashley Moody and Democrat Angie Nixon, as well as a marina development lease on Virginia Key.
Simultaneously, Mississippi is preparing for a general election that includes a U.S. Senate seat and a U.S. House seat for the 4th Congressional District. Secretary of State Michael Watson reported that 116,453 absentee ballots have been received. Local contests in Mississippi, including judicial races and the Hancock County sheriff's election, require a majority of 50% plus one vote to avoid a runoff on December 1. Voters in Pearl River County will also decide referendums regarding the sale of alcohol.
