DWF Labs Study Finds Bitcoin ETF Flows Lack Predictive Power
DWF Labs reports that spot Bitcoin ETF inflows and outflows do not reliably predict future price movements due to investor performance chasing.
A study by DWF Labs concludes that inflows and outflows of spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) are not reliable predictors of future price movements. The research indicates that ETF investors frequently engage in performance chasing, reacting to price changes after they occur rather than anticipating them.
Investors typically exit funds following large declines and return after rallies, often selling just days before a price bottom is reached. This behavior persists across all spot Bitcoin ETFs, including the iShares Bitcoin Trust, which held 68.7 billion dollars in assets under management as of October 23, 2026.
DWF Labs determined that the iShares Bitcoin Trust does not provide a stronger signal than its smaller competitors. Inflows into the fund generally arrive after rallies have already begun rather than preceding them.
