Disability Rights UK Warns Against Proposed PIP Reforms

Disability Rights UK issued a warning regarding proposed changes to the Personal Independence Payment (PIP) following the publication of draft recommendations from the Timms Review. While the organization welcomed the commitment to maintain PIP as a non-means-tested benefit and the focus on fluctuating impairments, it raised major concerns over proposals to introduce services and non-cash support alongside cash awards.

Campaigners argued that the draft uses vague and ambiguous language that could lead to disabled people, particularly those with invisible impairments, being treated less favorably. The organization also criticized the government for failing to co-produce the review with disabled people's organizations.

Alongside the Commission on Social Security, Disability Rights UK is advocating for the implementation of an Additional Costs Disability Payment as a cash-based alternative to PIP to ensure proper financial support.
