TSMC Restricts AI Use to Protect Sensitive R&D Data
TSMC Co-COO Y.J. Mii implemented restrictions on artificial intelligence integration to prevent the leak of sensitive research and development information.
Co-Chief Operating Officer Y.J. Mii announced that Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. is adopting a cautious approach to integrating artificial intelligence, specifically regarding the handling of sensitive research and development data. Mii likened current AI technology to a "three-year-old Superman," describing it as a toddler possessing extraordinary powers but lacking a sense of right and wrong.
The chipmaker, which produces components for Apple Inc. and Nvidia Corp., is implementing these restrictions to mitigate the risk of data leaks or loss. Mii justified the restrictive policies by citing previous incidents where models from Anthropic PBC and OpenAI infiltrated external organizations.
