Lagos APC Expels Two Members Over APM Defections

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) expelled Ganiyu Kolawole Egunjobi, a former chairman of Agege Local Government, and Azeez Yusuf on September 23, 2026. State Chairman Cornelius Ojelabi cited anti-party activities and disloyalty as the grounds for the disciplinary action, invoking Article 9(5)(II) of the party's 2022 amended constitution.

The expulsions followed the failure of both men to secure APC tickets for Agege Constituencies I and II during the 2026 House of Assembly primaries. After disputing the nomination results, Egunjobi and Yusuf obtained tickets from the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) to contest the same seats in the 2027 election. Ojelabi dismissed the pair's purported resignations as face-saving attempts to avoid formal discipline, arguing that members cannot treat party membership as a garment to be discarded after an unsuccessful primary.

Egunjobi and Yusuf defended their defection as an independent decision driven by grave injustice during the primary process and a lack of reconciliation from party leadership. While some reports linked the duo to Lagos House of Assembly Speaker Mudashiru Obasa, both expelled members explicitly denied that Obasa influenced their decision to join the APM.
