ICE Agents Break Arm of US Citizen in Long Beach
Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents broke the arm of a U.S. citizen during a detention in Long Beach, sparking calls for agency abolition.
Agents from United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement broke the arm of Ricardo Gonzalez, a U.S. citizen and former city employee, during a detention in Long Beach, California, on Saturday. Witness videos depict Gonzalez handcuffed and face down in a gutter while agents knelt on his back, with Gonzalez shouting that his arm was broken.
Gonzalez's daughter reported that an unmarked ICE vehicle knocked her father off an e-bike and that agents tased him twice. The Long Beach Police Department intervened after receiving calls from both Gonzalez and ICE agents, who had reported vehicle vandalism. Officers found Gonzalez bleeding and handcuffed, subsequently transporting him to a fire station and then a hospital.
Congressman Robert Garcia condemned the encounter as a "brutal attack" and called for the abolition of ICE. Mayor Rex Richardson expressed outrage, stating the incident lacked transparency and accountability. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has not commented on the specific detention, which occurred during a broader immigration crackdown by the Trump administration.
