C2i Semiconductors Tapes Out India-Designed AI Power Chip
C2i Semiconductors taped out a smart power stage chip for AI infrastructure designed entirely in India, marking a shift from design services to original chip development.
C2i Semiconductors announced the tape-out of a smart power stage chip designed for artificial intelligence infrastructure, marking a significant milestone for India's semiconductor ecosystem. The chip was conceived, architected, and verified entirely in India and is intended to regulate and optimize power within AI data centers to address rising energy demands.
The achievement represents a shift for India's semiconductor industry from providing design services to pursuing original chip development. Backed by Peak XV Partners, C2i Semiconductors plans to expand its pipeline of AI infrastructure products and is currently engaging with both domestic and international partners.
Ram Anant, Chief Executive and Co-founder of C2i Semiconductors, led the engineering effort for the chip. Amitesh Sinha, Chief Executive of the India Semiconductor Mission and Additional Secretary at the Ministry of Electronics and IT, noted that the accomplishment, supported by the Design Linked Incentive Scheme, demonstrates India's capacity to innovate across the technology stack from the power grid to the chip level. The India Semiconductor Mission, the government body overseeing the scheme, has been driving India's broader push into advanced chip design.
The tape-out signals growing momentum for India's ambitions in semiconductor design and manufacturing, particularly as global demand for AI infrastructure components accelerates.
