Meta Muse AI Agent Outpaces ChatGPT in Early Adoption

The personal AI agent Muse, launched by Meta Platforms, has seen rapid early adoption, recording over 2.5 million global downloads in its first two weeks. In the United States and Canada, Muse recorded 1.8 million iOS downloads in its first 12 days, outpacing ChatGPT's 1.3 million over the same period. The app reached No. 1 on the U.S. App Store, supported by integration with Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.

Muse utilizes connectors to perform tasks across internet services, such as making reservations and paying bills. Meta has partnered with Shopify to enable agentic checkout, allowing Muse to browse Shopify-powered stores and complete purchases via Shop Pay. This partnership caused Shopify shares to surge as much as 8.9%, while Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg indicated the company could monetize the service by taking a small cut of business transactions.

In contrast, Amazon blocked Muse agents from its website, stating that unauthorized access by an AI agent violates its Conditions of Use. Amazon raised concerns regarding how the agent identifies itself and the potential exposure of customer account information, claims Meta disputes by stating sensitive credentials are stored securely. The rapid rise of consumer AI agents has shifted Wall Street focus toward CPU server demand for chipmakers and sparked volatility for financial services and insurance firms.
