Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan Launch Caspian Bridge Transport Project

Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan are establishing a joint intermodal cargo terminal and a new trans-Caspian ferry system to enhance freight transportation along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route.

Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan are establishing a joint intermodal cargo terminal and a new trans-Caspian ferry system called the Caspian Bridge. The initiative aims to enhance freight transportation along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route through a series of strategic partnerships and infrastructure investments.

Kazakhstan Temir Zholy and Azerbaijan Railways signed a Term Sheet to create the intermodal terminal and a joint venture. Simultaneously, the sovereign wealth fund Samruk-Kazyna and AZCON Holding signed an agreement to implement the ferry system.

To support the expanded capacity, the Baku Shipyard will build two multipurpose dry cargo vessels for KTZ Express Shipping. Kazakhstan plans to acquire a total of eight container vessels by 2028, with four produced in Baku and four produced in China.
