Bank of Japan Governor Kazuo Ueda Discusses Inflation Stability
Bank of Japan Governor Kazuo Ueda says Japan has reached its 2% inflation target but remains uncertain about how long that equilibrium will last.
Bank of Japan Governor Kazuo Ueda stated on Friday that Japan's inflation rate has reached the policymakers' 2% target, though he remains uncertain about the duration of this stability. Speaking during a question and answer session following a speech at the International Monetary Fund in Washington, Ueda noted that inflation has not yet become embedded among the broader Japanese public.
Ueda characterized the current economic state as being in equilibrium, but he cautioned that it is unknown whether the country can maintain that level for a long period. He emphasized that the central bank's goal is to keep underlying inflation at 2%.
