Gartner Inc. Projects $2.52 Trillion Global AI Spending by 2026

Gartner Inc. projects that worldwide artificial intelligence spending will total $2.52 trillion in 2026. Despite this growth, the research firm warns of a $383 billion AI yield crisis stemming from deficiencies in leadership and organizational maturity.

This crisis is especially severe for the Global South, where emerging economies risk importing ill-fitting AI models. Such dependencies may drain capital, erode data sovereignty, and create structural reliance on foreign systems. While these regions have significant talent and data potential, they currently control less than 3% of global AI compute.

To mitigate these risks, business leaders in emerging economies are encouraged to prioritize organizational maturity over rapid adoption. This strategy includes building strong data foundations, implementing human oversight, and shifting talent focus from prompting to orchestration to ensure AI initiatives produce measurable profit and loss impacts.
