Republicans Sweep Oklahoma Statewide Races as Mazzei Wins Governorship
Republican Mike Mazzei won the Oklahoma gubernatorial race and GOP candidates swept all statewide offices, though voters rejected two key constitutional amendments.
Republican Mike Mazzei won the Oklahoma gubernatorial election on November 3, 2026, defeating Democrat Cyndi Munson with approximately 53% of the vote. A former state senator and budget secretary under Governor Kevin Stitt, Mazzei campaigned on a platform of fiscal discipline and tax cuts for seniors and veterans. He is scheduled for inauguration on January 11 at the Oklahoma State Capitol.
Republicans achieved a total sweep of all statewide offices, including victories for Robert Franklin as state superintendent and Jon Echols as attorney general. In federal races, the GOP maintained full control of Oklahoma's congressional delegation. Kevin Hern won a U.S. Senate seat, and Stephanie Bice narrowly retained her House seat by a single point. Despite these wins, Oklahoma Democrats flipped five to six state House seats in urban and suburban areas of Tulsa and Oklahoma City, though Republicans will retain a legislative supermajority.
Oklahoma voters rejected two constitutional amendments. State Question 847, which would have lowered property tax assessment caps, was defeated with 42% of the vote. Opponents, including the Oklahoma Policy Institute, argued the measure would have drained revenue from schools and local governments. Voters also rejected State Question 845, which sought to restructure the Judicial Nominating Commission by removing party representation requirements. Voter turnout for the election was approximately 45%.
