Gallup Poll Reveals Deep Partisan Divide Over American Values

Gallup and With Honor found a stark partisan split on national values, with Republicans prioritizing patriotism while Democrats emphasize equality and fairness.

A national survey conducted by Gallup and With Honor between May 12 and 22 reveals a significant partisan divide regarding the core values the United States needs most. The widest gap exists concerning patriotism, which 46% of Republicans prioritized among their top three necessary values, compared to only 6% of Democrats.

Republicans also emphasized responsibility and honesty. In contrast, Democrats prioritized equality, fairness, and kindness. Across all political affiliations, the most frequently cited urgent needs were honesty, responsibility, and integrity. No single value achieved a 50% consensus among the general population, though freedom was the most common response at 38% when respondents were asked if at least one value is shared by most Americans.

Generational data indicates that adults aged 65 and older are nearly three times as likely as those aged 18–39 to believe the country needs more patriotism. Despite these ideological differences, 79% of participants stated that respecting different values is more important than sharing the same ones, and 70% believe elected leaders should compromise across party lines.
