Volkswagen Recalls Atlas SUVs Over Backup Camera Software Glitch
Volkswagen Group of America is recalling 2024–2026 Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport SUVs to fix a software issue that causes rearview camera failure.
Volkswagen Group of America is recalling 2024–2026 Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport SUVs because of a software issue that can cause the rearview backup camera to fail. A low-voltage electrical disruption may prevent the camera image from appearing on the central display when the vehicle is shifted into reverse, which increases the risk of collisions and fails to meet federal safety standards.
Reports regarding the scale of the recall vary, with one source citing 79,579 affected SUVs and another stating 57,851. The company has received 571 related claims but reports no known crashes or injuries resulting from the glitch.
Dealerships will provide a free software update to resolve the issue. Affected vehicle identification numbers became searchable via the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on July 28, 2026, and the company expects to mail notification letters to owners on September 18, 2026.
