Amit Shah Proposes Triangular Security Grid for Siliguri Corridor
Union Home Minister Amit Shah proposed a new military grid to secure the Siliguri Corridor and criticized former West Bengal leadership for delaying border fencing.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah proposed the establishment of a Triangular Security Grid to protect the Siliguri Corridor, a strategic land link connecting eight northeastern states to the rest of India. During a security review in Sukna, West Bengal, Shah detailed a plan to build three new military garrisons in Chopra, West Bengal; Kishanganj, Bihar; and Dhubri, Assam. He directed security agencies to adopt a quadrangular approach to border security, prioritize time-bound infrastructure projects, and halt illegal immigration.
At a separate ceremony for Sashastra Seema Bal projects in Siliguri, Shah accused former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of obstructing national security by ignoring requests for 1,129 acres of land for Border Security Force fencing since 2014. He contrasted this with the cooperation of current Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, who expedited the land transfers and cleared the long-pending Census process.
Adhikari affirmed his government's uncompromising stance on national security. In addition to border infrastructure, Shah urged Adhikari to strengthen regional stability by expanding Sainik schools, increasing the number of senior NCC cadets, and bolstering Civil Defence and Home Guards in North Bengal.
