CSG Acquires 9.5% Stake in MDA Space

Czech industrial group CSG became the largest shareholder of MDA Space after acquiring a 9.5% equity stake to expand its defense and aerospace capabilities.

CSG, a Czech industrial and defense group, has entered the space sector by acquiring a 9.5% equity stake in MDA Space. This investment makes the Czech group the largest shareholder of the Canadian space technology company, which is listed on the Toronto and New York stock exchanges.

The investment aligns with a long-term strategy to expand defense and aerospace capabilities into space. Potential future cooperation between the two companies includes partnering on strategic acquisitions and co-investing in European manufacturing or assembly facilities. To manage this expansion, CSG established a dedicated space team including Ladislav Stahl as Head of Space Strategy and Technology, Filip Kocián as Space Director for Corporate Development, and Cameron McKenzie as Senior Adviser for Canada.

MDA Space intends to use the investment to strengthen its global investor network and European business partner base. CSG Chairman Michal Strnad described the move as a strategic investment reflecting the growing importance of the space sector, while MDA Space CEO Mike Greenley noted that expanding the investor network serves as a strategic tool for business growth as nations increase sovereign defense and space investments.
