Microsoft Updates Windows 11 to Boost System Responsiveness

Microsoft is rolling out Windows 11 updates that increase responsiveness by 20% through improved memory management and a redesigned Photos app.

Microsoft Corporation has launched a series of performance and reliability updates for Windows 11, claiming the operating system is now up to 20 percent more responsive. These optimizations specifically target PCs with 8GB of RAM or less by redesigning memory management to keep up to 2GB more active data in memory rather than moving it to slower storage. To further reduce background workloads, Windows Widgets now load only when opened, freeing over 200MB of memory.

These improvements affect core components including the Start menu, File Explorer, Search, and the Edge browser. Beyond memory efficiency, the update introduces a rebuilt Photos app using the WinUI 3 framework, featuring a faster viewer, a reorganized editor with relighting and object removal tools, and a unified gallery integrating OneDrive and Apple iCloud. Other additions include faster Windows Hello sign-in, improved Bluetooth pairing for devices like AirPods, and the ability to reposition the taskbar to the top or sides of the display.

Microsoft stated these changes follow a quality commitment made in March 2026 in response to user feedback and competitive pressure from Apple's MacBook Neo. While currently available to Windows Insiders, the company plans to roll these updates out more broadly later this year.
