Russia Expands Carbon Fiber Production to Boost Drone Output
The Russian government is expanding a state-run factory in Tatarstan to increase the annual production of kamikaze drones by an estimated 28,000 units.
The Federal Government of Russia is expanding its capacity to produce kamikaze drones used in attacks on Ukrainian cities. Plans from the state company Rosatom detail the expansion of the Alabuga-Volokno factory in the Tatarstan region, which aims to produce an additional 500 tons of military-grade aerospace carbon fiber annually by 2029.
This material is essential for drone airframes. Expert estimates suggest the increase in carbon fiber would allow Russia to manufacture an additional 28,000 weaponized drones per year, representing a 78% increase in production.
Ukraine currently estimates that Russia produces more than 36,000 Gerans kamikaze drones annually. Some of these drones recently struck a passenger train on the Polish border.
