Adeleke Campaign Petitions British High Commission Over Osun Election

The Imole Campaign Council, representing Governor Ademola Adeleke, petitioned the British High Commission in Abuja on July 24, 2026, to request international monitoring of the upcoming Osun State governorship election scheduled for August 15. The council describes the poll as a critical test of Nigeria's democratic institutions and the integrity of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

During a press briefing in Abuja, council spokesperson Pelumi Olajengbesi alleged that the Nigerian Police Force in Osun State is compromised. Olajengbesi accused the state Commissioner of Police of partisan behavior and failure to address political violence, including reports of killings within the state. To resolve these issues, the council submitted a complaint to the Inspector-General of Police requesting the redeployment of state police leadership to guarantee voter safety and neutrality.

Supported by the Coalition of Public Interest Lawyers, the council is urging the Federal Government and security agencies to remain neutral. The group maintains that the credibility of the Osun election will serve as a litmus test for the stakeholders involved in the democratic process.
