Samsung Develops GAIA AI Chip for PC Market

Samsung Electronics is developing a 4nm AI accelerator chip called GAIA to enable on-device generative AI capabilities in PCs.

Samsung Electronics is developing a 4nm AI accelerator chip for PCs named GAIA, marking the company's first entry into the PC chip market in 14 years. The chip is designed to enhance on-device AI capabilities and support generative AI tasks, including the execution of large language models and AI agents.

GAIA features an optimized neural processing unit and integrates with Samsung's next-generation processing-in-memory DRAM technology to improve performance per watt. The company has already provided prototypes to major PC manufacturers, including HP and Lenovo, to validate the hardware's performance.

This strategic move positions Samsung as a direct competitor to Qualcomm and Nvidia, specifically challenging products like the Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme and RTX Spark. Samsung expects to begin mass production of the GAIA chip as early as next year.
