Bernie Moreno Urges Review of Chinese Firm's Ohio Land Deal
Senator Bernie Moreno requested a national security review of a proposed real estate transaction by China-based SolarSpace Technology near Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.
Senator Bernie Moreno requested that Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent conduct a national security review of a pending real estate transaction involving SolarSpace Technology. The China-based manufacturer of photovoltaic cells and modules intends to lease or purchase a facility in Kettering, Ohio, located approximately 13 miles from Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.
Moreno argues that the proximity of the facility to the base, which serves as a hub for aerospace research, engineering, and intelligence, poses a national security risk. He asserts that the Chinese Communist Party utilizes commercial entities to advance military and intelligence objectives. SolarSpace Technology is headquartered in Xuzhou, China, and has previously received millions in Chinese government subsidies.
Moreno called for the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) to investigate the transaction to prevent potential shell companies from acquiring land near sensitive military infrastructure.
