Hong Kong Economy Grows 4.3 Percent in Second Quarter

Hong Kong's economy expanded 4.3 percent year-on-year in the second quarter of 2026, marking 14 consecutive quarters of growth.

The Government of Hong Kong reported a 4.3 percent year-on-year expansion of the economy in the second quarter of 2026. This growth marks the 14th consecutive quarter of expansion, though the figure slightly missed the mean economist forecast of 4.4 percent. On a seasonally adjusted quarter-to-quarter basis, GDP decreased by 0.6 percent from the first quarter.

Resilient domestic demand and buoyant external trade drove the growth. Total exports of goods rose 28.8 percent and imports climbed 29.3 percent during the period, while private consumption expenditure increased by 2.9 percent.

Officials expressed expectations for solid growth in the second half of 2026, citing sustained visitor arrivals and anticipated demand for artificial intelligence-related products. However, the government noted that tensions in the Middle East and trade protectionist measures require close surveillance.
