Apple Warns Against Charging iPhones Under Bedding

Apple issued safety guidelines warning iPhone users that charging devices under pillows or blankets can cause overheating, electric shock, or fire.

Apple issued a safety warning regarding the risks of charging iPhones in bed, specifically when devices are covered by pillows or blankets. The company clarified that routine overnight charging is not the primary concern, but rather the danger posed when phones, cables, or adapters are left in enclosed or poorly ventilated spaces.

Such conditions, combined with the use of damaged equipment or exposure to moisture, can lead to electric shock, injury, fire, or property damage. The company recommends charging devices on firm, uncovered surfaces and maintaining an ambient temperature between 0C and 35C.

Guidance advises against trapping cables under the body or covering wireless chargers with fabric. If a device becomes unusually hot or displays a temperature warning, the company instructs users to turn the phone off and move it to a cooler environment away from direct sunlight.
