South Korean KOSPI Rebounds After Record Daily Crash

South Korean shares rebounded Wednesday after the KOSPI index suffered its steepest daily loss since March, driven by chipmaker gains and cautious optimism over U.S.-Iran talks.

South Korean shares recovered on Wednesday, July 30, 2026, after the benchmark KOSPI index experienced its most significant daily decline since March 4. The rebound followed a crash on Tuesday where the index fell 10.8% to close at 6,023.66, the lowest level seen since April 14. Technology companies bore the brunt of the Tuesday losses.

On Wednesday, the KOSPI rose 1.49% to 6,113.61. This recovery was fueled by dip buying and a focus on semiconductor earnings. Samsung Electronics saw its shares climb 4.09%, while SK Hynix rose 0.26%, despite reporting quarterly results that did not meet high investor expectations.

Market analysts from Kiwoom Securities characterized the market as having entered over-sold territory. The recovery is attributed to easing concerns over U.S. Federal Reserve policy, cautious optimism regarding U.S.-Iran negotiations, and a broader perception that Asian markets had been oversold.
