New Jersey Governor Orders Ports to Reject Russian Diesel
Governor Mikie Sherrill warned port operators to block Russian diesel shipments authorized by the Trump administration, citing conflicts with federal law.
Mikie Sherrill, the Governor of New Jersey, warned port and terminal operators on November 3, 2026, to reject Russian diesel shipments. The governor's directive follows a Treasury Department license issued last month that authorized the sale, delivery, and importation of Russian diesel under the Trump administration.
Sherrill argued in a letter that the federal license conflicts with a 2022 federal law that banned Russian oil products after the invasion of Ukraine. She stated that New Jersey would use its legal and regulatory authority to block the shipments, noting that at least one tanker carrying the fuel may be headed for the state.
