American Airlines Resumes Nonstop Flights to Caracas

American Airlines resumed nonstop daily service between Miami International Airport and Simón Bolívar International Airport in Caracas on September 3, 2026. The route had been suspended since June 24, 2026, after two earthquakes of magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 devastated the central coast of Venezuela and forced the closure of the Caracas gateway.

Simón Bolívar International Airport currently operates at approximately 25% of its pre-earthquake capacity. Due to severe infrastructure damage, the airport is processing passengers through temporary modular facilities located in the parking lot. American Airlines is presently the only U.S. passenger carrier providing direct flights to the city.

The resumption of service follows a diplomatic thaw after the removal of Nicolás Maduro from power in January 2026. Other carriers, including JetBlue and Laser Airlines, intend to launch competitive routes to Caracas later this year or in early 2027.
