Nigeria Targets $50 Billion Investment to Boost Oil Production
The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission introduced offshore incentives to attract $50 billion in investment and increase oil production to 3 million barrels per day by 2030.
The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) announced new incentives for offshore oil and gas projects designed to attract $50 billion in new investment. This initiative follows a steep decline in annual industry investments, which fell from $26 billion in 2014 to $2 billion.
Nigeria aims to increase oil production to 3 million barrels per day by 2030. As part of this long-term goal, the NNPC has set a shorter-term target to reach 2 million barrels per day within two years. The government is also seeking an immediate output increase of 100,000 barrels per day to address global supply gaps resulting from the war in Iran.
Recent crackdowns on oil theft and sabotage in the Niger Delta have already yielded results, allowing Nigeria to exceed its OPEC+ quota of 1.5 million barrels per day for three consecutive months as of July. NUPRC Chief Executive Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan stated that the country requires additional skilled workers, specifically in digital industries, to fully realize these investment opportunities.
