Taiwan Conducts Urban Warfare Drills With Abrams Tanks
Taiwan's 584th Armored Brigade practiced urban concealment and refueling with M1A2T Abrams tanks during Han Kuang military exercises in Taoyuan.
The 584th Armored Brigade of Taiwan's military conducted urban warfare training in Taoyuan as part of the Han Kuang military exercises. The drills focused on the deployment, concealment, and refueling of M1A2T Abrams tanks within a bustling urban environment to simulate defenses against a potential Chinese invasion.
Taking place in a construction yard near Taiwan's main airport, the exercises utilized M978 Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Trucks for refueling and Clouded Leopard infantry fighting vehicles for security. The M1A2T tanks, delivered by the United States in April, are assigned to the northern theater command to protect the capital, the main airport, and the international commercial port.
Military analysts suggest these third-generation tanks are best suited for ambushing forces at urban chokepoints rather than engaging in direct head-to-head combat with the larger tank fleet of the People's Liberation Army.
