Private equity sponsors are seeking liquidity following a period of consolidation within the energy retail sector. Since a 2020 recapitalization involving Pritzker Private Capital, Duchossois Capital Management, and Concentric Equity Partners, the distributor has grown through bolt-on acquisitions. This expansion included the purchase of Connecticut-based Hocon Gas in February.
A small group of direct lenders is currently evaluating a private-credit staple financing package to support a potential buyout. However, there is no certainty that the current process will result in a definitive transaction.
