Nokia CEO Says AI Infrastructure Demand Outpaces Supply
Nokia CEO Justin Hotard argues that AI data center construction is not overbuilding but is instead limited by energy and chip shortages.
Nokia CEO Justin Hotard stated that the technology industry would build data centers twice as fast if not for supply constraints, specifically shortages of energy and key memory chips. Speaking on CNBC's "The Tech Download" podcast, Hotard argued that the current pace of AI infrastructure development does not constitute overbuilding, asserting that the industry remains in the early stages of deployment.
Hotard maintains that demand for deploying existing technology remains high, regardless of whether new frontier models are released in the coming years. This position contrasts with views from other industry leaders, such as Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, who has called for a slowdown in the development of advanced models due to existential safety concerns.
The debate occurs as AI investments are projected to reach 10.3 trillion dollars between 2025 and 2032. In the United States, these investments are expected to average 3.63% of the annual GDP.
