Morrisons Supermarkets Deploys Everseen AI Checkouts Across 200 Stores

Morrisons Supermarkets is installing AI-powered Evercheck technology in 200 stores to reduce checkout errors and wait times using real-time computer vision.

The supermarket chain Morrisons Supermarkets is introducing AI-powered self-checkout technology across 200 of its UK stores in the first phase of a partnership with technology company Everseen. The system, known as Evercheck, uses real-time computer vision to compare items in a shopper's basket with those scanned, providing on-screen prompts to help customers self-correct missed or mis-scanned items.

This deployment follows a successful trial and covers approximately two-fifths of the company's 500-store estate. The integration aims to minimize interruptions and decrease the need for staff intervention during routine scanning errors, thereby shortening wait times. Morrisons Supermarkets has not yet specified which individual stores will receive the technology or the final completion date for the rollout.

Both companies stated that the technology focuses exclusively on the transaction and does not utilize facial recognition or profile individual shoppers. Store Support Office Director Francesca Bezoari noted that the partnership enables a seamless checkout experience while allowing staff to maintain service standards.
