Bath Iron Works Union Ratifies Five-Year Labor Contract

Nearly 4,500 members of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Local S6 ratified a five-year collective bargaining agreement with General Dynamics Bath Iron Works. The contract, which took effect August 24, 2026, and runs through August 24, 2031, provides a 17% general wage increase in the first year and 4% annual increases for the following four years.

Financial terms include increased shift premiums of $2.50 per hour for second- and third-shift workers, improved 401(k) contributions, and locked-in healthcare costs for the duration of the agreement. The contract also establishes enhanced protections regarding seniority, outsourcing, and the implementation of artificial intelligence and robotics.

Union leadership stated that the agreement was reached without any concessions. President of IAM Local S6 Tim Suitter noted that the union fought to deliver member priorities at the bargaining table. General Dynamics Bath Iron Works President Charles F. Krugh described the contract as the result of good-faith negotiations, stating it ensures long-term stability and supports the production momentum of surface combatants for the U.S. Navy.
