Reform UK MP Buys £800,000 Second Home in Wales
Sarah Pochin purchased a luxury second home on Anglesey shortly after questioning the government about the impact of second-home ownership on rural communities.
Reform UK MP Sarah Pochin purchased an £800,000 Grade-II listed second home on the island of Anglesey, Wales, jointly with her husband, Jonathan. The acquisition occurred two days after Pochin submitted a written question to the government regarding how second-home ownership affects rural communities.
In response to her June 15 inquiry, Housing Minister Matthew Pennycook stated that excessive concentrations of short-term lets and second homes negatively impact housing availability, affordability, and local services for residents. The couple maintains their primary residence in Cheshire.
Anglesey has experienced a significant increase in holiday home ownership, prompting the Isle of Anglesey County Council to implement a 100% council tax premium on second homes. Local officials, including deputy leader Robin Wyn Williams, have warned that such ownership patterns displace families, erode community spirit, and damage the provision of schools and other essential services.
