EPA to Rescind Biden-Era Methane Super Emitter Policy
The Environmental Protection Agency plans to rescind a methane leak reporting policy to reduce regulatory burdens on oil and gas producers.
The United States Environmental Protection Agency announced plans to propose the rescission of a Biden-era policy targeting large methane leaks from oil and gas operations. The program, known as the super emitter policy, required energy companies to respond to suspected leaks reported by third parties using remote sensing technology.
EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin stated the move aims to remove unnecessary burdens from energy producers to ensure Americans can afford heating and fuel. The agency claims the proposal will save 45 billion dollars annually.
This action aligns with a broader Trump administration strategy to increase domestic fossil fuel production by reducing business regulations.
