Michigan Audit Finds 99.99% of Voter Rolls Are Valid

The Michigan Office of the Auditor General released a report on Friday concluding that the Michigan Department of State generally maintains eligible voter rolls. The audit found that 99.99% of the 8.3 million voters in the Qualified Voter File possess valid personal data. Between January 1, 2022, and March 30, 2026, state officials canceled nearly 1 million registrations for permissible reasons.

Despite the high accuracy rate, the audit identified specific anomalies. These included 403 registrations canceled or rejected due to citizenship issues and 347 canceled because the voter registered in error. The report also flagged 653 voters with birthdates indicating they are over 122 years old and 73 who are under 17.5 years old. The Michigan Department of State attributed these birthdate discrepancies to placeholders or data entry errors.

Regarding election integrity, the audit found 2,582 ballots cast by individuals who died before Election Day. Of those, 2,561 were absentee ballots cast within 40 days of the election. The Michigan Department of State maintained that these findings demonstrate that election officials are being proactive about maintaining voter rolls rather than indicating a systemic problem.
