Central Asian Railway Operators Sign Middle Corridor Digitalization Protocol

Railway operators from Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, and Georgia met in Tashkent on February 9, 2026, to improve the efficiency of freight transportation from Central Asia toward Europe. The heads of the national railway companies focused on strategies to attract new freight flows and identified the expansion of digital logistics solutions as a primary priority to enhance transit speed and coordination.

Following the Tashkent talks, Azerbaijan Railways, Uzbekistan Railways JSC, Georgian Railways JSC, and Turkmenistan's railway ministry convened in Ashgabat on February 10, 2026. This quadrilateral meeting expanded the scope of cooperation to include Turkmenistan and built upon a Memorandum of Understanding signed in August 2025 between Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.

The Ashgabat gathering concluded with the signing of a formal protocol. This agreement specifically addresses the digitalization of operations, the development of freight transportation, and the diagnostics of the Middle Corridor to increase the route's overall competitiveness.
