Member of the East African Legislative Assembly Winnie Odinga declared her intention to contest the Nairobi Senate seat in the 2027 General Election. She made the announcement on October 15, 2026, during the first-anniversary commemoration of her father, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, in Bondo, Siaya County.
Odinga framed her bid around the political vacancy created by incumbent Senator Edwin Sifuna, who is pursuing a presidential candidacy through the Linda Mwananchi movement. During her address, she urged young people across Kenya to seek elective positions to drive change. She further challenged supporters to honor her father's legacy by improving the lives of citizens rather than negotiating political positions.
