Tech Billionaires Gain $845 Billion Through September 2026
Tech billionaires increased their combined wealth by $845 billion this year, driven largely by AI infrastructure and the fortunes of Elon Musk.
Tech billionaires increased their combined wealth by $845 billion through September 30, 2026, the highest gain for the first nine months of any year. According to the relaunched Bloomberg Billionaires Index, these individuals now hold over one-third of the index's total assets despite comprising only 20% of its members.
Elon Musk drove nearly half of the total gains, adding $310 billion to his fortune. Other significant contributors to the growth include Mark Zuckerberg and Michael Dell. This surge in tech wealth contrasts with non-tech billionaires in the index, who experienced a combined loss of $62 billion over the same period.
The trend is primarily centered in the United States, where the top 10 wealthiest individuals are all American for the first time since 2012. However, new wealth has also emerged in East Asia, specifically through AI infrastructure firms. In Taiwan, King Slide Works saw its founder join the index after the company transitioned from furniture hardware to producing server racks for AI infrastructure.
