IDF Chief of General Staff Eyal Zamir conducted an operational assessment in the Gaza Strip on August 5, 2026, where he vowed that the Israel Defense Forces would not relent until every individual involved in the October 7 massacre is brought to justice. Zamir stated that the IDF has significantly weakened Hamas and fundamentally changed the security reality in the region.
Zamir emphasized a broader security strategy to protect all of Israel's borders, characterizing the Gaza front as part of a multi-front effort that includes operations in southern Lebanon. He noted that the IDF will continue to operate proactively to remove threats and protect residents.
Recent military actions in the Gaza Strip resulted in the deaths of several Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad terrorists. Among those killed was Mahmoud Fatair, a Palestinian Islamic Jihad commander who participated in the October 7 infiltration and the holding of hostage Rom Braslavski.
