UK Sanctions 19 Russian Entities and Vessels to Support Ukraine

The Government of the United Kingdom added 19 entries to its Russia sanctions list on Thursday, targeting 13 individuals and entities along with six vessels. Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband and Chancellor John Healey announced the package, which aims to disrupt the financial streams supporting Russia's ongoing war in Ukraine.

The measures include asset freezes and restrictions on six financial institutions: Ozon Bank, Russian Export-Import Bank, Center-Invest Bank, Realist Bank, Bank Stavr, and Teleport Bank. Additionally, the government sanctioned four companies—Metallkomplekt, Nikom, Promsiz, and Technolux—for importing tantalum and niobium, rare metals critical for military equipment. Other targets include Northern Engineering LLC and the India-based Frion Ship Management LLP.

To target the Russian energy trade, the UK designated six ships as part of a shadow fleet: the Arctic Express, Perseas, Torvian, Asteras, Visund, and Zenturo. These vessels transport energy products to third countries to circumvent restrictions. The sanctions were imposed under the Russia (Sanctions) (EU Exit) Regulations 2019.
