Stellantis Halts Production at Four French Plants in October
Stellantis will pause production at four French plants for up to 15 days due to battery shortages and market demand adjustments.
Automaker Stellantis announced on September 29 that it will halt production for five to fifteen days in October across four of its French manufacturing sites. The shutdowns will affect plants in Sochaux, Rennes, Mulhouse, and Poissy.
The company cited industrial reasons for the pauses, specifically noting that a lack of batteries for long-range electric vehicles has hindered production at the Sochaux plant. Stellantis stated that "this decision is linked to insufficient availability of certain batteries intended for the long-range versions of our electric vehicles," noting that business customer demand has exceeded parts supply capacity. At the Poissy site, the stoppage aims to align production with stock management and market demand.
Scheduled stoppages include a 15-day pause at the Mulhouse plant from October 15 to 30, and a shutdown at the Rennes plant from October 22 to 30. The CGT union condemned the decision to implement short-time working, arguing that the company should instead reduce line speeds to preserve employment and increase training.
