National Highways will execute a series of major maintenance projects on the A12 near Chelmsford starting July 13, 2026. The work, which continues through October 2026, focuses on resurfacing the carriageway and refreshing road markings to improve road quality.
To minimize daytime traffic disruption and ensure crew safety, the agency scheduled closures exclusively on weeknights between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m., weather permitting. The project is organized into three distinct stages: a northbound closure from junction 19 to 22 from July 13 to August 1, a southbound closure from junction 25 to 23 from August 10 to September 12, and a final northbound closure from junction 19 to 25 from September 14 to October 10.
Motorists affected by these closures must follow 25-mile diversions via the A131 and A120.
