Poll Shows 50% of US Voters Support Democratic Socialists

A new poll indicates half of American voters support democratic socialist candidates amid electoral gains in New York, Washington, D.C., and Los Angeles.

A poll conducted by The Economist and YouGov between October 23 and 26 reveals that 50% of American voters support a democratic socialist candidate, while 41% oppose such a candidate and 9% remain unsure. This shift in sentiment aligns with recent electoral successes for the movement, including primary victories in New York and potential mayoral wins in Washington, D.C., and Los Angeles.

Zohran Mamdani, the Mayor of New York City, has become a central figure in this trend after two of his endorsed candidates won congressional primaries in June. The Democratic Socialists of America continue to push for a system of collective ownership of essential economic drivers to increase the influence of ordinary citizens in society.

Additionally, the survey indicates that Senator Bernie Sanders maintains a 49% favorability rating among registered voters as the movement expands its footprint in major American cities.
