Industry Experts Warn AI Trust Gap Threatens Adoption

Business leaders and analysts warn that consumer skepticism and privacy concerns are undermining AI adoption, urging a shift from efficiency-led strategies to trust-based governance.

Industry analysts and business leaders warn that trust has become the critical factor for successful AI adoption, superseding concerns over efficiency or capability. Data from a KPMG study indicates that fewer than half of regular AI users trust the technology, while research from Prosper Insights & Analytics shows 56% of respondents are concerned about privacy violations.

Business leaders argue that companies falling into an efficiency trap—prioritizing headcount and cost reduction—risk destroying brand loyalty and alienating customers. This risk is compounded by technical failures, including data leaks and hallucinations, which create significant financial and reputational liabilities. Research from Gardener predicts that by 2030, the cost per resolution for generative AI in customer service will actually exceed the cost of using offshore human agents.

To address these challenges, some experts propose a new governance paradigm. Chao Cheng-Shorland of Mithra AI advocates for the use of blockchain to ensure data traceability and suggests employing AI as a control layer to monitor and prevent the exposure of sensitive information.
