GE Aerospace Fixes GE9X Engine Seal to Maintain 777X Schedule

GE Aerospace redesigned a mid-seal part for its GE9X engine after identifying a durability issue in April 2026. Chief Financial Officer Rahul Ghai confirmed that this technical challenge will not delay the Boeing 777X's planned entry into service next year.

The company began shipping engines equipped with the redesigned seal to Boeing in the third quarter of 2026. While the new part awaits Federal Aviation Administration certification, which is expected within the next few months, the existing seal remains sufficient for current certification requirements. This allows Boeing to proceed with necessary approvals, including the start of ETOPS testing.
