HP, Asus, and Acer Adopt Chinese CXMT Memory Chips

Global PC manufacturers HP, Asus, and Acer Inc. have begun integrating memory chips from China's ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT) into limited quantities of notebook computers sold in non-U.S. markets. The shift is a response to a global memory shortage caused by surging AI infrastructure demand, which has strained the supply chain typically dominated by Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix, and Micron.

This move coincides with CXMT's recent listing on the Shanghai STAR Market, where the company achieved a valuation exceeding that of Intel. To support this growth, CXMT is expanding production plants in Shanghai to increase its capacity, particularly for high-bandwidth memory for AI, while prioritizing domestic clients such as Huawei.

Despite the adoption, the PC makers are maintaining a cautious approach to avoid alienating the three dominant global chipmakers. They are also managing risks associated with CXMT's presence on a U.S. Pentagon list of companies with alleged ties to the Chinese military.
